Christmas Tree Decorations: Treasured Keepsakes

Christmas Tree Decorations: Treasured Keepsakes.  Decorating a Christmas tree can be a wonderful expression of our lives, family memories, and treasured keepsakes.  Every year as I unpack Christmas ornaments, fond memories fill my mind.  Although we don’t have a theme on our tree, every ornament is a treasured keepsake because it reminds us of our children at different stages of their lives.  At that moment, my heart is filled with joy and thankfulness to God for another Christmas we can spend as a family creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Do you have special treasured keepsakes? You know those special things your grandmother made that brings back fond memories of her?  My great grandmother passed away 8 years ago and I felt her loss deeply. She was a special woman that brought joy to any room she was in. She had such a kind, compassionate, and Christ-like spirit.

One of her favorite things to do was knit. I always wanted her to make something special just for ME.  As she was getting older, I knew the chances of her being around to see my children born was slim.  With that in mind, five years earlier I asked her to knit me a beautiful blanket for my children.  It was the most beautiful blanket in the world.  As my children were born, everyone of them had the privilege of going home wrapped in it. Even my first born daughter, who passed away, was able to be wrapped in it.

How Will You Be Remembered?

Have you ever stopped to about how you will be remembered when you are gone?  Is there something special that you have made that will have a special place in the hearts of your children/grandchildren?  Are there items you have made for them that will bring back fond memories of you?

I realize that the importance of the keepsake isn’t in its monetary value but in the feelings and memories it evokes.  If you really think about it, many of the keepsakes we have don’t have monetary value but have great sentimental value. You know those items that every time you pull them out bring back very specific memories and fill your eyes with tears?

There are many that have passed before us, but their memories fill our hearts.  When we pull out those special Christmas Tree Decorations they left behind, we can hear them and even feel their presence among us.

  1. I have to tell you, I ended up making 25 of these and they were realitively easy to make and are stunning. The hardest part was lining up the circle background pieces but once I did a few I found a system that worked for me. I ordered more sheets to day to make a few more. Thank you for a lovely project.

  2. I made my first poinsettia this weekend and I must say that the pictures don’t do them justice. This is a beautiful ornament. I do have a question though…I used hot glue to put the metal pieces together but I had the finishing piece and first layer come off very easily. What do you think I am doing wrong? How long do you wait before you handle them? Would tacky glue work as well? I really don’t want them falling apart for someone. I have not used a glue gun before, should it be set on high or low? Thank you for your help.

  3. Also, do you sell the Tim Holtz die or should I purchase it somewhere else?

    • Paula,

You can purchase the Metal Sheets here at Add a Little Dazzle and will have to find the die online. Sizzix website has them available.

  4. These are stunning. Can you tell me how large the circle is? I have some circle dies but don’t know if I have the right size. Thank you.

    • Paula,

      The diameter is 4 inches.

  5. This is beautiful! can you use the SU! poinsettia with this project?

    • Donna,

You can but it honestly doesn’t look as good. I tried it and I preferred this die. 🙂

  6. This box is great – can you tell me where you purchased the A2 clear acetate box? I have looked online and the ones I have found are only 3/4 inch on the sides and the video says you need 1 inch. Also, will this box hold the Christmas card you made with the poinsettia? Thanks.
