Are You Your Worst Enemy?

Are You Your Worst Enemy? I am my own worst enemy.  When I began my journey to wellness, I always said when I weigh xxx I will be happy. The truth is I am 3 pounds up and down from that goal and I am not happy.  I look at myself in the mirror and hate what I see.  Instead of looking at how far I have come, I look at everything that is wrong with me that is hidden underneath the clothes.  You know that part nobody ever sees (AKA lots of loose skin). I am struggling with this part of the journey right now and am working on transforming my mind. I am working on loving myself and seeing myself how God sees me.

500If Only…

Have you ever looked at another woman and said to yourself, “If I only looked like that I would be happy”? My entire life I compared myself to others and said those words. I looked at friends, cousins, acquaintances, and strangers and wished I looked like them. Even after losing 132 lbs. (my story here), I am still not happy. The truth is I will NEVER look like them and I need to accept that reality.

While I was in my “weight loss roller coaster journey”, I always dreamed of looking firm and tone.   My skin is loose and jiggly and far from perfect.  It’s so jiggly that my surgeon told me how difficult it was to do the 3 hernia repairs I had in the past year because my excess skin would move all over the place.

Yes, I have lost weight BUT underneath all this clothes is a girdle holding it all together.  My body is not perfect. My thighs jiggle, I have bat wings, and lots of loose skin in my stomach area. As women, we look at others and wish we looked like them and the truth is that what you see on the outside may not be the full picture.

love yourselfLoving Ourselves Unconditionally

As women, it is so easy for us to love others and encourage them unconditionally. Unfortunately, when it comes to ourselves we tear ourselves down and look at everything that is wrong with us.  We look at our flaws and our past wounds and that is all we can see in the mirror. We tear ourselves down and become our worst enemy.

We need to accept ourselves where we are at right now. This doesn’t mean settling it just means accept where you are in your journey to wellness.  Many times I get so caught up in the end result that I don’t look at the journey.  If we look at the end result, we give up before we even begin trying. We tell ourselves we can’t do it.  We will fail again. We are ugly.

As women, we need to stop self-sabotaging ourselves. We need to see ourselves how Christ sees us PERFECT.  We may not be where we want to be BUT He still loves us and we are precious pearls in His Eyes.  We need to love ourselves with the unconditional love the Christ has for us.

2. Post scriptures around your house that will encourage you and uplift you.

3. Surround yourself with friends and family that will uplift you in your journey to wellness.

4. Look at YOURSELF in the mirror and speak positive.
